Emma Smith the movie

Maralea and I saw "Emma Smith" last night at the Regal Theaters located at 9400 W. Sahara Ave. (northwest corner of Sahara and Ft. Apache). As I understand it, the movie will be running through Thursday of this week, and the above theater is the only place where it is showing in the valley. I highly recommend it.

The movie involves much of the cast (and I believe possibly the same director/producer) of the Joseph Smith movie presently shown in visitors centers. It essentially relates the story of Joseph's life from Emma's perspective. The story is narrated by Emma as she has a heart to heart with her adopted daughter, Julia Murdock Smith, stricken with illness, both near the end of their mortal lives, from their home on the banks of the Mississippi. The movie is well done, compelling and - if you enjoyed the Joseph Smith movie, you will definitely like this. It chronicles the courtship of Joseph and Emma, the tragic loss of every child, the many tests of their faith, and provides insight to Emma that is very touching. The theater was about half full when we saw it at the 7:10 pm showing last night, and only a very few left the theater before the credits concluded. I think we were all waiting to dry our eyes. The music is beautiful, scenery is wonderful, and we left with a greater appreciation for Emma and her contributions to the Restoration.

This will obviously be available on DVD in the near future. However, go see it on the big screen if you can - and take your family. It is well worth the effort - even though may not necessarily be playing "at a theater near you."
